AAE

ASSOCIATION FOR ADVANCEMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY  & the ENTOMON JOURNAL

The Association for Advancement of Entomology (AAE) was established in the Department of Zoology, University of Kerala, at Kariavattom by an internationally reputed Insect Physiologist Professor K K Nayar and a team of Research and Teaching Scientists of the University of Kerala and the Kerala Agricultural Universityin 1975. It was registered under the Registrar of Societies, Govt. of Kerala (Registration No. 146/ 1975) on 25 September 1975 as a Non Governmental Organisation. The Founder President of AAE was Professor MRGK Nair of the Kerala Agricultural University who continued in that position till his demise (1975 - 1998). Many Researchers and Scientists from the Department of Entomology, Kerala Agricultural University (KAU); Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) and the Kerala Forest Research Institute are actively involved in the activities of the AAE.

AAE soon got established as a leading organization in the country and abroad with 250 life members on roll and many annual and institutional subscribers; extending its activities in all aspects of Entomological  research and incorporating Researchers working all over India.

The Association has conducted several national and international seminars and symposia / congress on different aspects of Entomology and the proceedings have already been printed and released.

AAE is publishing its quarterly research journal ENTOMON since 1976, without any break from Trivandrum. Various agencies evaluating the research journals published from India periodically have been rating ENTOMON amongst the top TEN.

Subsequent to the demise of Professor K.K. Nayar, the number of research staff engaged in Entomological Research in the Department of Zoology, University of Kerala, at Kariavattam campus got reduced and there was no one to carry on AAE and its activities in the campus. In the absence of any active member of AAE in the Department of Zoology, it has become compulsory for the AAE to shift the office from the Kerala University campus.

In view of the fact that majority of the locally available life members of AAE are attached to the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Vellayani and the continued activities of the AAE and ENTOMON will be beneficial to the entomological research in KAU, the Executive Committee of AAE resolved to request KAU for permission to relocate and function the AAE in the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Vellayani. The authorities of KAU accepted this request and permitted AAE to function from the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Vellayani.

The newly elected members of Executive Body of Association for Advancement of Entomology (AAE) took charge during February 2014. There was a setback in the AAE activities and publication of ENTOMON due to organisational and administrative problems at its headquarters in University of Kerala, Kariavattam, Trivandrum. The new office bearers of AAE could shift its head quarters with effect from 28 February 2014, to the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Kerala Agricultural University (KAU), Vellayani,Trivandrum - 695 522, where more than 20 life members of AAE are working in various capacities. With sincere efforts of these members in the KAU, the new Executive Body could establish the office of AAE and set right all the   administrative problems in running the various activities of AAE and the publication of ENTOMON.

With in a period of 10 months, ENTOMON volume 37 (2012) as combined issue and 38 (2013) with 4 issues were brought out and the volume 39 (2014) is being processed for publication by March 2015. The earlier recognition and prestige enjoyed by the AAE and its journal ENTOMON will be fully resurrected in 2015. Full cooperation and involvement of every member of AAE is earnestly requested to achieve the above target.

The entire activities of AAE, including the processing and publication of the journal, are being managed through the voluntary services of the entomologists working in the College of  Agriculture, Vellayani and Professors and Scientists retired from the two universities and CTCRI settled in and around Trivandrum.

AAE places on record its gratitude to the KAU authorities for kindly permitting the AAE and ENTOMON to function in the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, KAU, Vellayani,Trivandrum - 695 522.
